The Studio has opened! – Oct 3

Since I’ve started here at eARTh Studios, the studio has been cleaned head to toe, and classes are in full swing.

I’ve helped clean almost every shelf and reorganize all our tools for easier use for everyone, leaving the studio with an uplifted feeling ready to welcome you all home again. We have even revised the lighting, with new light bulbs where needed and new lights added for extra light to be able to see every detail of your work. The slips have been updated with the addition of a new colour to the studio: Deep Orchid. New sample tiles for slip will be fired and ready soon. Our beloved kiln is under repair right now but I’ve clean out all the old glaze from it so it too will be ready for use once it’s been fixed. Our chalkboard has been updated to a new M.C. Richards quote and scene that I’ve created for everyone to enjoy.

We have had two open studios so far with a couple throwers attending and working on their skills and one hand builder who has returned from the last sculpture class. We have a full beginner throwing class on Mondays and an a full intermediate throwing class on Tuesdays. Wednesday from 7-9pm are open studio’s, first come, first serve, as well on Saturday 3-5pm. Thursdays we have a tween class full of kids loving and ready to learn more about working with clay. Than we have another beginner wheel class Thursday nights starting this week that is also a full class.

Whats Happening in the Studio

This evening marks the first bisque firing of 2013! The new year brings many new creations and inspirations to eARTh studios. Wednesday evenings are open studio night and this evening we have Erin on the wheel, Susan pinching a pot, Sarah is handbuilding some vessels and Cobi is trimming up some beautiful cups. Wednesday nights are always fun with new faces and different projects on the go every week. Open studio is just that, OPEN to anyone to fill their evening with whatever creation they decide. It is non-instructional so it gives everyone a chance to explore techniques on their own. Come by Wednesday evenings from 7pm – 9pm to join in the fun and let your creative juices flow.IMG_7040

At eARTh studios we are currently working on a large wall hanging of a great blue heron. The wall piece is made up of 56 tiles and measures 38×56. The tiles have been sculpted and carved and soon to be fired in the kiln. Stay tuned for updates on this large scale project in the making.

New to the studio this week we are working with coloured clay. We have tinted some recycled clay with 6 different colours. We now have purple, blue, orange, black, green and pink clays to play with. They can be used to marble your projects or add coil accents and coloured shapes as surface design.

Aslo We will be offering a Teapot workshop over two Saturdays in September/Oct
Surface Design Saturday in November, Exact dates and times TBA

All 8 week classes: $295.00 + $30 one bag of clay.
taxes not incl.
Open Studio pass $100. (8 weeks) not including clay, glazes and firing.
