Take your throwing to the next level! In this 3-hour intermediate workshop, you’ll learn how to throw your weight around—literally—by working with larger amounts of clay (2, 3, 4, and 5 lbs). The focus will be on techniques for centering, compressing, and confidently throwing bigger forms, both in width and height. You’ll develop the strength, coordination, and rhythm needed to throw with intention and control as the clay gets heavier and more responsive.
Whether you’re aiming to make wide bowls, tall vases, or hefty mugs, this class gives you tools to scale up your throwing practice with confidence.
By the end of the class, participants will:
Understand the physical principles of centering larger balls of clay
Learn anchoring and hand placement techniques for control
Explore strategies for conserving energy while throwing heavy
Practice throwing taller and wider forms with consistency
Recognize how to adjust speed, water, and pressure for larger pieces.
