Clay Curiosities

An Eight-Week Clay Club for Ages 8–13

Starts Friday Sept 25- Nov 20th 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Explore the curious possibilities of clay!

Each week, young artists will investigate a different creative theme—botanical, celestial, natural, abstract, symbolic or wonderfully weird—while learning a new hand-building or surface-design technique.

Through sculpting, stamping, pinching, joining, carving, texture and glazing, students will create a playful collection of small ceramic pieces. The weekly themes will provide inspiration and direction while leaving room for individual interpretation.

Weekly Projects

• • Week 1: Wall pockets September 25th
    Building decorative pockets for flowers, notes or tiny treasures

• Week 2: Picture Frames October  2nd
  Hand-building and learning how to slip, score and securely join clay.
• Week 3: Hanging Mobile—Part One October 9th
  Creating a pinch-pot central character and designing the mobile’s theme.
• Week 4: Hanging Mobile—Part Two October 16th
  Adding smaller pieces and exploring balance, movement and composition.
• Week 5: Candle and Tea-Light Holders October 23rd
  Exploring light through texture, carving and cut-out designs.
• Week 6: Clay Magnets October 30th
  Sculpting and stamping inspired by texture and pattern.

• Week 7: Glazing Day November 6th
  Adding colour and finishing the ceramic pieces in preparation for their final kiln firing.
• Firing Break—No Class November 13
  The glazed work will receive its final firing before assembly.
• Week 8: Assembly and Celebration Nov 20th 
  Assembling mobiles, attaching magnets, adding finishing touches and celebrating the completed collections.

Clay Curiosities offers older children an engaging introduction to ceramic art through structured weekly themes, practical pottery skills and imaginative exploration. No previous clay experience is required.
