Fabiana Chagas joined eARTh Studios in January 2018, and brings a love of clay with her! It has been amazing to work alongside Fabiana in the studio and I have found myself deeply appreciative of her skill with both clay as a medium and the people she has assisted in Open Studio and in our Workshops.

Her brief Bio:
For Fabiana, pottery is a milestone steering her towards a life of art and nature. Having worked as a lawyer for 17 years, she felt as if something was missing in her life.

Early in 2015, she began taking ceramics classes. Just one year later she has found herself totally immersed in the world of arts and with such assurance that she moved to Canada to enter into the two year ceramic studio program at Kootenay School of Arts.

Her body of work reflects the many influences she have had over the years of her training. The result is a line of functional artworks that are intended for daily use in the kitchen and home. Her work was primarily wheel thrown with stoneware clay and she glazes with rich vibrant colors, but now she is also involved with some slip casting pottery. In this process she is applying liquid porcelain into plaster molds to obtain a thin wall and translucent piece.

eARTh Studios is building a whole new home! But due to this massive undertaking we will be closed until January for workshops. Here is a photo of the process of the new Studio. We hope to see you in the new year!

NEW:
eARTh’s Tile and Pinch Hand-building Workshop

eARTh Studios is hosting a hand-building workshop on April 8th, 9th and 22nd. The delicate craft of pinching handmade bowls will be introduced and developed using a variety of techniques you will be able to build upon for years to come.

We will also spend a day learning the art of creating a personal tile by casting forming, sculpting, and carving a 6″ x 6″ tile and plaster mold. This mold will enable you to develop a tile series for your home improvement or become a framed wall piece.
An introduction to slab and slip using our studio slump and hump molds will result in a large bowl or platter.

If interested in this workshop it would be wise to register now with a $50 deposit fee. (call or email first to check availability) $325 plus tax.

Sierra and I are going to NCECA Conference https://nceca.net this year but Open Studio will still be open!

20170115_17452620170115_163323 20170115_174605 20170115_163849eARTh Studios hosted our first beginner and intermediate Wheel World Throw Down in January 2017. The results spoke for themselves, as new and old potter’s alike threw cups and bowls in series challenging themselves to stay with the process in this intensive weekend.

Sierra and I noticed the difference between an 8 week class and a weekend intensive. Beginners met their leaning edge by throwing bigger, better more consistent cups and bowls while intermediate potter’s threw larger then ever before while cementing more advanced skills into their repertoire.

We considered this so successful for everyone that we plan to host another Throw Down the weekend of February 25th, 26th with Glaze Extravaganza March 11th!

Stay tuned for final photos and upcoming testimonials.
